This blog is a portal of personal reflection. I wish to offer these words as a mirror, for you these words as a tool to reflect your own souls journey.
What I offer here are not literal absolutes, or dogmatic fixed conceptualizations or doctrine. Nor do I subscribe to any one tradition or school of thought. I see traditions as doorways, that provide a point of view, not the final say.
I personally find such black and white thinking as rigid and ego centric. I have nothing to tell or proclaim to you as indisputable truth, because I don't even know what that may be.
Truth and meaning is between you and your Muse.
I see thought and feeling as fluid, even mercurial in nature.
I personally hope that what I express of my own mutterings, will be amended and adjusted by my own dynamic reflection and process.
So, like a photograph of a flower captured one day, its image is frozen, but its essence and beauty is eternal.
I see myself as a metaphor, a conveyance of a momentary glimpse of consciousness.
The etymology of the word metaphor, contains the idea to carry over or transfer, a womb. A womb is not the child but carries the child.
If you are looking for right and wrong, good and evil, or for conceptual absolutism, this is not for you. And I wish you well and happy on your path.
I also do not feign enlightenment or spiritual authority, or any other authority, for that matter.
If you want to take a walk with me, then take my hand. I can share the road with you, but what you see on the road is up to you.
The journey you take is yours and yours alone to discover.
“After all, we're just walking each other home.” (quote from Ram Dass)
So on to our next adventure!
A personal note…
…A letter to my friends who I have shared poetry with over the last few years through texts and emails...
I am grateful for your continued presence in my life. Actually, sharing poetry with you has provided for me an deeper inner connection and source of reflection.
One of my favorite words in German is Verbindung. I understand this concept as a force which binds us together. This force is an eternal and ubiquitous bond of love, harmony, and beauty. It is my intention and hope that this bond will continue to inspire and infuse us all with the Source of all inspiration and reflection.
The Radiance Sutras, Rumi, Hafiz, Yunus Emre, Rilke, and Mary Oliver have become friends to show us the way home.
I hope to continue to share from these deep wells of insight, as well as snapshots from my own experience. Although each of us share in the collective human experience, perhaps my unique journey may hopefully inspire you to continue to inquire deeply into your own experience. Many of you have joined with me almost daily in my morning coffee and contemplations. I genuinely enjoy your company.
Due to my challenged innergies, for some time now, I have felt the need to consolidate my attention into one place, at least for the present. This may change since change is the only certainty these days. It has been said, that "one cannot step into the same river twice".
I do not want to burden or bore you with the details of my issues; or provide you with a long treatise of the vicissitudes of my journey. In short, I am safe, I am not in any danger or harm, as far as I can apprehend. My health, both body and mind, has been of particular concern over the last couple of years. Sweeping changes in my personal life, my geographical life, and occupational and financial life, have given me pause to redirect and consolidate my efforts. What I am NOT saying is farewell, goodbye, or toodaloo. But rather let's meet together down the street for coffee or tea, at that new place around the corner.
You have inspired me daily, which I feel will continue. Whether, silent or spoken, or in absentia. Please feel free to reach out to me by text, phone, email, or smoke signals to say hello. You can also subscribe to this blog, so my offerings can be emailed to you, if you so choose (I will figure it out).
The Bard wrote From A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Act V, Scene 1
"If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended, That you have but slumber’d here While these visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme, No more yielding but a dream, Gentles, do not reprehend: if you pardon, we will mend: And, as I am an honest Puck, If we have unearned luck Now to ‘scape the serpent’s tongue, We will make amends ere long; Else the Puck a liar call; So, good night unto you all. Give me your hands, if we be friends, And Robin shall restore amends"
And finally (whew) Spock said: "I have been - and always shall be - your friend."
I hope to see you soon for our next cup of ambrosia.
What is silence? The absence of sound? The absence of words? The absence of thoughts? The absence of self? The absence of movement? Where does silence begin and the words and thoughts end? If I don’t speak or move, am I really silent? If I don’t speak or move do the birds stop singing or […]
In the morning I see the fire laced clouds Wisps of smoke, vaporous splendor Birds weave their song and wing in the light the breeze gently heals wounds most tender The mountains awake from their torporous rest as light awakens the dream the night and the day revel and jest as lovers in infinite gleam […]
